Services

Speech/Language Intervention

Your child will benefit from these services if he/she...

  • shows signs of being a "late talker"
  • has had frequent ear infections and/or has speech which is difficult to understand
  • has trouble putting his or her thoughts into words, which sometimes results in negative behavior
  • struggles with following directions and paying attention
  • has a developmental disability such as Autism, Down's Syndrome, or Cerebral Palsy

Aural Rehabilitation

These services benefit children and adults with hearing loss to maximize listening and speaking.  Beth specializes in services for children age birth to three and their families.

Beth's approach:

  • Start early.  Lay the foundation for positive parent/child interaction and set expectations for development that are both ambitious and attainable.
  • Encourage device use.  Families must recognize that intermittent use of hearing aids or cochlear implants undermines outcomes.  Troubleshooting and behavioral support help foster full time use of technology.
  • Support communication modes.  A strong auditory verbal focus helps develop listening and speaking skills.  Sign language can serve as a communication bridge for situations when technology use (cochlear implants, hearing aids) isn't possible.  Beth encourages families to use a variety of means to communicate with their children.
  • Make it fun.  Engaging play-based therapy increases expressive/receptive language and listening skills.  It also builds confidence across the family.
  • The Difference.  Babies and children with hearing loss are Beth's specialty.  There is no guarantee with other area services that the professional working with your child will have knowledge of hearing loss or how to best work with a child with hearing loss.  These babies can't wait.

Sign Language/Cued Speech Instruction

For some children and their families, manual communication is the right choice.  Sign language or cued speech may be used as a part of your child's Aural Rehabilitation plan.  Classes offered based on interest.
